The HydraMotion Linear Motion Actuator has three primary position modes, extend, retract and hold as shown in the following diagram:

The clockwise rotation of the electric motor extends the actuator rod. The counter clockwise rotation of the electric motor retracts the actuator rod. The actuator is hydraulically locked in place when the motor power is removed.
